Minutes from Social Sciences Task Force Meeting of September 12, 2003

 

The Social Sciences Task Force met Friday, September 12, 2003, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Rio Grande Campus in Room 125. The following faculty were in attendance: Geof Andron, Karen Bell, Ross Bigelow, Jake Bloom, Mary Beth Booth, Jack A. Bucco, Mary Chipley, Clint Davis,  Carol Hayman, Don Jonsson, Elizabeth Pintar, Mike Pool, David Robinson, Marianna Sidoryanskaya, Alec Slivinske, and Jim Sondgeroth. 

  1. The meeting was called to order at 12:35 pm. 
  2. The agenda for the meeting was approved.

    1. Approval of agenda.
    2. Approval of last meeting's agenda.
    3. Summer 2004 schedule recommendations.
    4. Adjournment.


  3. After one name was removed and another added to the list of attendees at the last meeting, the minutes of that meeting were approved.
  4. Using the Summer 2003 course schedule as a starting point, a number changes were approved to that schedule in order to come up with the Social Science Task Force's recommendation for the Summer 2004 schedule.

    After the changes noted below were made the Summer 2003 schedule, the task force approved rolling it over to next summer.

    1. Anthropology
      1. ADDED COURSES
        1. First 5.5 week session: ANTH 2301 Physical Anthropology--sometime between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm.
        2. First 5.5 week session: ANT 2433 Field Methods--Study Abroad-- this is to be the second course offered in Mexico. It will be paired with ANTH 2302.
        3. 11 week session: ANT 2433 Field Methods, NRG, Saturday 12:00pm - 4:00pm. This will replace the ANTH 2302 taught last summer at this time.
      2. DROPPED COURSE
        1. 11 week session: ANTH 2302 Introduction to Archaeology, NRG, Saturday 12:00pm - 4:00pm.


    2. Geography
      1. ADDED COURSES
        1. First 5.5 week session. DISTANCE LEARNING. GEOG 1302 Introduction to Cultural Geography PCM
        2. Second 5.5 week session. CLASSROOM COURSES. GEOG 1301 Introduction to Physical Geography, RGC, 10:40 am to 12:10 pm.
      2. DROPPED COURSE
        1. First 5.5 week session. CLASSROOM COURSES. GOG 2433 World/Regional, RGC, 9:05 am to 10:35 am.


    3. Economics
      1. ADDED COURSES
        1. First 5.5 week session. DISTANCE LEARNING ECON 2301 Principles of Macroeconomics PCM
        2. Second 5.5 week session. DISTANCE LEARNING. ECON 2302 Principles of Microeconomics PCM
