    9. Adjourn.
  4. The minutes of the last meeting were approved with amendments to the list of participants in the SWOT exercises for Anthropology and Geography.
  5. Barbara Chambers, who now works in ACC's counseling office but who had many years experience in the Financial Aid office, spoke to us about Financial Aid in general but most specifically about how it works in the summer.

Students are awarded financial aid for the whole academic year. Students need to apply for it and submit all the required financial statements the year before they expect to receive the aid.

Most students use up all the aid in the fall and spring semesters and hence do not have any money left for the summer semester. However, even when this occurs ACC itself can give students a grant equal to one-half of the stipend they might expect in the fall or spring semesters.

Students who are on financial aid in the summer must register for six hours of class credit. If they only register for three hours of class credit in the first 5.5 week summer session, they will not receive any financial aid disbursements until they register for another three hour class in the second 5.5 week summer session.
  6. Two additional books were added to the approved list, one for the Introduction to Archaeology, ANTH 2302, and one for Field Methods in Archaeology, ANTH 2433.
    1. ANTH 2433: Archaeology: Theories, Methods, and Practice, Fourth Edition by Colin Renfrew and Paul Bahn
      ISBN: 0500284415
    2. ANTH 2302: Archaeology: An Introduction: The History, Principles and Methods of Modern Archaeology by Kevin Greene
      ISBN: 0812215702
  7. Clint Davis and Mary Beth Booth reported on the progress being made in the Program Review process for Anthropology and Geography respectively.

The SWOT exercises had been completed for each discipline and the committee chair of each program review was busy completing the Program Status Form and the Quality Improvement Form.

  8. The SACS questions for Physical Anthropology, World and Regional Geography, Physical Geography, and Introduction to GIS were amended.

For Physical Anthropology, a tenth question was added and the answers to the seventh question were re-written.

For World and Regional Geography, four questions were added to bring the total to ten.

For Physical Geography, a tenth question was added to the list of questions.

For Introduction to GIS, three questions were added to bring the total to ten.
  9. Carol Hayman decided not to change the structure of her study abroad program in Peru. She does however want to make this program an exchange program with the university she works with in Lima. She would like to bring Peruvian students to the Austin for a 5.5 week summer session where they would hopefully take an economics course. She would also like to reciprocate the services rendered to her in Lima by having one of the professors in Lima teach the economics course the Peruvian students would be taking here at ACC. The task force was uncertain how this might work and therefore asked Carol to talk to the International Programs director, Jan Smith, to see what sort of hurdles would have to be cleared if this exchange program were take place.
  10. There was a discussion of whether to add classroom observation evaluations to all faculty's third year portfolio reviews. This discussion will be continued next meeting.
  11. The meeting adjourned at 3:00 pm.
