SOCIAL SCIENCES TASK FORCE MEETING NOTES

The ACC Social Sciences Task Force met on 2 March, 2001 at North Ridge Campus at 1 pm. Those in attendance were:

  13. S. Heiden (Ant)
Agenda Items:
  1. Honors Courses: Croxdale volunteered to be a member on the Eco honors course committee, Davis on the Ant, and Booth on the GEOG. Members to contact N. Butland whose is the ACC coordinator for the honors courses.
  2. Program Reviews: Davis briefed on the status of the review stating that review was progressing well. Total review to be completed soon.
  3. SACS: Davis briefed on ANT and GEOG that we were meeting the SACS requirements. T. Lee (absent) is handling the ECO requirements which also are being met.
  4. Summer Open Classes for ANT: Davis recommended offering cultural and physical anthropology 2nd summer, and archaeology summer for 11 weeks. To be considered in the future.
  5. ITV ECO classes: Motion passed to recommend to the dean that these classes be reduced in size to 35 from 50.
  6. Budget Items: Davis wants same quality of equipment for academic purposes that students currently have and wants a new iMac… Booth needs more capacity/power in her computer hardware to better serve her students…..Everyone told to submit their specific requests as line items for the next fiscal year budget procurement.
  7. Full-Time ECO open Positions: Sondgeroth and Kumassah briefed on status of applications, etc. Reviews of applications are proceeding according to schedule.
  8. New Textbooks: GEOG….add ISBN 0-13-016238-8….delete ISBN 1-56690=127-8
ECO….add ECO for PUBLIC ISSUES….delete ECO for PUBLIC POLICY……add McConnel's 15th Edition and delete 14th Edition…add Thinkwell's Macro and Micro Economics….

ANT…add 2nd edition "Coloring Book"

all recommendations were approved.
