Teacher Education
Center for Teacher Certification Programs
Austin Community College's Center for Teacher Certification offers certification training for Math, Science, Bilingual EC-4 and 4-8, Special Education, and other certifications as requested by local school districts. The program begins in January with the fourth cohort of participants, offering: personal attention; hands-on, reality training in conjunction with theory and practice; research-based curriculum; instructors and supervisors who have teaching expertise; networking with school districts; and quick response to student concerns and needs.

This program offers educational opportunities for current teachers and future teachers, such as those wanting to work with students in the classroom (ParaEducators and Substitute Teachers), certified teachers, and Child Care workers seeking additional professional development hours.

We prepare teachers for the realities and rewards of the teaching profession by offering outstanding faculty and experienced teachers as facilitators. We serve the greater Austin area and partner with school districts and state agencies to provide a quality workforce for the community.

The goals of a learner-centered program are:

  • Link theory to practice.
  • Develop awareness and skills of teaching as a reflective process.
  • Develop knowledge and skills of the teachers as decision-makers within a learner-centered educational community.
  • Develop proficiency in classroom management and assessment.
  • Develop, implement, and integrate pedagogy and content knowledge.
  • Exhibit professionalism among all participants in the school setting.
  • Develop a desire for lifelong learning.
  • Support beginning teachers in ways that encourage continuance in the profession

If you want to make a difference and serve your community, consider teaching. Our youth need positive role models, adults who care and will take children from reality to reaching their potential. Although teaching is a rigorous career, the enjoyment gained from seeing a child "get it" is a unique experience. Why Would I Teach?
