home > success > prepare your schedule

The typical adult education student can have many things going on: family, work, community, and spiritual.  To be successful in college, it is important to manage your time and try not to over-schedule.  Important things to consider when choosing your classes at ACC:

Be realistic and don't try to sign up for too many classes per semester, especially when first starting out.  You can add more classes per semester once you have mastered "the world of college".  Click here to learn how much time a typical class will take and for other helpful definitions.

Try not to schedule back to back classes. You'll wear yourself out besides missing the best times to study--right before and right after class.

Choose classes close to your work or home.  Click here to learn about ACC locations

Research the class requirements for a class before you even sign up.  You can learn about class requirements and the instructor's expectations by visiting a professor's web site.  Here is an example of Dr. Dan Dydek's (Psychology) web site.  You can reach the sites of instructors through the on-line course schedule

Develop good time management skills.  Sometimes time management skills seem to actually take more time than to create time.  This just means all time management skills or habits are not for everyone.  You can come to appreciate them if you develop habits that fit your personality.  Try to pick at least two good time management habits you think will help you in college at the web sites listed below.

The following web sites will help you with your time management skills:
