Academic Policies & Procedures

New Students

Your academic success is very important to us. Please review and understand the following information before you begin classes at Austin Community College.

Withdrawing From Class

You may withdraw from an ACC class after the semester has started, but you must do so through your ONLINE SERVICES account before the deadline listed in the ACC Registration Calendar. ACC does not automatically withdraw students who choose to stop attending class. Students who fail to officially withdraw will receive a failing or incomplete grade in the course.

Check with your high school counselor before withdrawing from a dual credit course as this may affect your high school schedule and graduation plan.

Information Disclosure

You are covered under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which prohibits ACC from disclosing certain information to anyone, including parents, without your written consent.

Required Attendance

You are required to abide by the college’s academic calendar, which may vary from that of your high school. ACC does not differentiate between Dual Credit students and their college peers; all students should make the necessary time commitment required of their class.

Missing ACC Dual Credit classes to attend high school related events such as pep-rallies and field trips are not considered excused absences.
If you anticipate an absence, please consult with your ACC professor for appropriate arrangements.

Scholastic Dishonesty

Acts prohibited by the college for which discipline may be administered include scholastic dishonesty, including but not limited to, cheating on an exam or quiz, plagiarizing, and unauthorized collaboration with another in preparing outside work. Academic work submitted by students shall be the result of their thought, work, research or self-expression. Academic work is defined as, but not limited to, tests, quizzes, whether taken electronically or on paper; projects, either individual or group; classroom presentations; and homework.

Check with the four-year school you plan to attend for scholarships available to you, or check with ACC’s Financial Aid Office for recommended scholarship search websites.

Returning Students

You will need to complete the following steps for each semester you enroll as a Dual Credit student.

Remove AR-7 Student Hold

Every semester that you want to enroll in Dual Credit classes you will need to submit a new Dual Credit Co-Enrollment form and meet with a Dual Credit Specialist (when scheduled to be at your high school), or an ACC Advisor at any ACC campus.

Until you complete this process you will have an AR7 hold placed on your record that will prevent you from registering.

Advising for Returning Students

As a RETURNING student, advising is much easier.

Part 1

  1. Meet with your high school counselor to find classes that work for you. If you are a home school student, give us a call and we can help.
  2. Obtain a Dual Credit Co-Enrollment Form from your counselor and obtain the appropriate signatures.
  3. Find out when an ACC Dual Credit Specialist will be on your campus to advise or visit any of our ACC campuses to meet with an Academic Advisor on a walk-in bases; no appointment needed!
