ACCess WELLness Offers Options to Get Healthy
ACC employees now can take advantage of ACCess WELLness, an expanded wellness program featuring information, classes, and support for developing healthier lifestyles. To kick off the program, free fitness classes will be offered at most campuses beginning Monday, Sept. 16 (details below).
"Wellness has always been a focus at ACC,” says Geraldine Tucker, vice president of human resources. “Through ACCess WELLness, we are expanding our programs and services to provide employees with the resources, opportunities, and support they’ve told us they want and need.”
ACCess WELLness encompasses programs and information relating to fitness, nutrition, stress, addiction management, aging, emotional health, and more. The ACC Wellness Program website includes links for the various programs and topics, as well as information about joining a campus wellness team or a wellness discussion forum.
§ ACC libraries offer links to databases and other sources of information about getting healthy.
§ Health and Kinesiology Professor Carol Hirsh has developed a multimedia online exercise guide for creating an exercise program and using exercise equipment.
§ Gyms at Riverside and Northridge campuses are available to employees. Find out more on the health and kinesiology webpage.
Finally, for post-workout, ACC’s Massage Therapy Program offers hourlong massages for $25.
Free Physical Activity Classes
This fall, ACC is offering employees free yoga, Zumba, Pilates, tai chi, aerobics, and boot camp classes. Go to Wellness Program Classes and Workshops to see the classes offered at each campus. Sign up through the professional development workshop database.
Employees must attend 70 percent of the classes in which they enroll to avoid a $50 fee. (Some exceptions apply; see the participation form (pdf)).
