Upcoming month/year:

Barbara informed everyone that next month Karen Bauer from Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will be attending the meeting to inform the members of the association of the EAP and how they can help us in the work place and with our personal lives.  Please email confidential questions to Karen at alliance@admin.inetport.com.   Barbara also stated that other items for the upcoming year are on the website.  If there are any other issues that you would like to have discussed at the meetings or any other representatives you would like to attend the meeting please volunteer that information by emailing Barbara at bdickey@austin.cc.tx.us.

Update from Board Meeting:

Barbara notified the association that the Classified Employees Retirement package had been approved and that the eligible employment notice would be issued on January 12, 2001.  She also explained that you must be at least 55 years old and have had 10 years of continued service to be eligible.  The question arose if you were still eligible if you turned 55 on August 29 of this year, the answer yes.  Also, you must have at least 10 years of continuous employment up to the date you retire.  It was also asked if the faculty were getting an additional supplemental incentive?  The answer: Yes the faculty will receive a percentage increase based on the Dallas model.    There is more incentive for budgetary reasons for the faculty to leave than there is for classified employees as they make more money than classified employees.  Classified employees early retirement plan is cut & dry, we will receive 50% of our annual salary as a lump sum incentive for early retirement.  Judy Doyen volunteered herself to form a research group regarding the Retirement Systems (ERS); if you would like to volunteer please email Judy at jdoyen@austin.cc.tx.us.

Barbara also thanked Gerry Tucker for getting the checks out to the faculty on time.  She also asked the board about the four Senior Administrative Assistants who are below Administrative Assistant III she also asked about Lab Technicians who are below as well.  She was informed that this issue would be looked into this year and that they would try to get the money scale more equable.  Judy Green noted that she has spoken to Gerry Tucker about giving Administrative Assistants a couple of steps to where Administrative Assistant III are getting paid more than Senior Administrative Assistants.  The comment was made that we should not wait until next year to work on this; we should start working on this right now, this year.

Barbara explained to the Board that the informal survey that she sent out to those Classified employees who are on the list serve regarding whether or not they were in favor of the faculties vote of no confidence came back as follows:  36 replies; 24 in favor of vote, 12 against vote.  It was explained at the classified meeting to the members that the full-time faculty took what Barbara said at the Board Meeting out of context.  The full-time faculty has stated in their newsletter that the classified employees back them and their vote of no confidence.  It was discussed in the Classified meeting that Barbara would write up a memo to the full-time faculty explaining to them that this was not a formal survey and that we do not support their vote.

New & Old Business:

Judy Green explained that the final corrections are being made on the evaluations.  She also explained that training of supervisors on campus would be mandatory.  Judy has not yet discussed any of the questions that were presented to her with the committee.  Any professional development obtained after July 31st will be used towards the upcoming year.

Judy Doyen presented t-shirts to George Sweeney and Matilda Morales for volunteering to be representatives.  It was asked where we could obtain t-shirts like these in the future.  Donna Pitts explained that we were no longer doing t-shirt sales.  Last year the association only raised $158.28 for the scholarship, it requires a lot of work and the results weren’t very successful.

Margie Shelnutt expressed that she was upset with the Social Security issues and would like to see if more people are interested in having someone come and speak to us about this issue?

The meeting adjourned at 1:05 PM.

Respectfully submitted by:  Tracy Miller-Thomason, ACCCEA Secretary
