AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION
Tuesday, February 13, 2001 - HBC room 107, Noon 1:00 PM
The meeting was called to order 12:00 PM.
Welcome: Barbara Dickey started the meeting off by first introducing all officers and representatives. She also asked all new attendees and new employees to the college to introduce themselves.
Reports: It was reported that there is currently $875.00 in the emergency fund. If you would like to make a donation you can give the check to a campus representative or send it to Barbara Dickey, just please state in the memo part of the check that it is for the Emergency Fund. Please remember everything helps, even a $1.00 donation will help.
Old Business: As past minutes were being read it was noted that there had been a misunderstanding with Patrol Officer Gubin Lopez. Judy Doyen had explained at the January meeting that Gubin was willing to have a garage sale if people would help him run it. This in fact is not the case; Gubins real comment is that he has plenty of stuff to donate if the Association would be willing to have the garage sale, or if they knew of someone who would be having one.
It was discussed at the meeting today that some folks at Eastview were thinking of having a garage sale there on a Saturday or Sunday to help raise funds for the Emergency Fund.
New Business: As an FYI to all members Max Landry, President-Elect, was not in attendance as he is interviewing for a Full-Time Faculty position.
It has been discussed with Linda Morrison about getting a blood drive going. It was suggested that there be a mobile unit which would go to each campus, thereby preventing employees from having to travel to donate.
It has been in discussion as to whether vouchers will be made available for dependents of employees at ACC. The issue has been taken to Dr. Fonte by the Prof-Tech Committee.
Sue Bloodsworth discussed having a gumbo lunch to obtain money for the Student Scholarship fund. Sue estimated that a bowl of gumbo could sell for approximately $3.50 a bowl creating a $2.00 profit for the Scholarship Fund. She thought they could hold the luncheon at HBC, however, they would need to set up an RSVP arrangement so that Sues husband would know how much gumbo to make.
Approve Minutes: The December minutes were approved with Kerry Landfield motioning first for its approval and Jackie Pool seconded the motion. The January minutes were approved with Tomi Welch motioning first for its approval and Jackie Pool seconded the motion. All past minutes were approved.
Guest Speaker: Michael Saber from American Express was todays speaker. Michael came to discuss the retirement options with the Association. There are many different options available for retirement: TRS, ORP, 403B, 401K, TSA, TSCA, Roth IRA, Traditional IRA. ACC does not offer a 401K; we have a 403B, which is another form of the 401 K. The 403B is for state and college organizations, which are non-profit organizations. The 401K is available to profit organizations. Michael discussed the three pools of retirement and that we live 20-30 years beyond retirement so we should plan for the future.
Next Meeting: The next meeting is to be held on March 6, 2001, which will be a luncheon with Dr. Fonte and several board members. The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 PM.
Respectfully submitted by: Tracy Miller-Thomason, ACCCEA Secretary |
