AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION

Tuesday, June 12, 2001 - HBC room 201, Noon – 1:00 PM

The meeting was called to order at 12:02 PM.

Welcome:  Barbara took a few moments to welcome the classified employees and asked all the officers and representatives to stand and introduce themselves.  Those officers and representatives in attendance along with Barbara were; Jackie Pool, Kerry Landfield, Judy Green, Tracy Miller-Thomason, and Mark Goodrich.

Approve minutes:  One error was found in the May 8th minutes.  Jackie Pool moved that the minutes be approved with the correction of the error.  Donna Pitts seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved.

Updates: A picnic table has been placed outside of HBC for the non-smokers however, the City of Austin came and cut the branches off the tree, so shade is no longer available.  Mark Goodrich was going to look into a new location for the picnic table.

Performance Excellence Program:  Melinda (Mindy) Carlson from Staff Development came to discuss the new PEP (Performance Excellence Program).  Mindy stated that all employees should have received a booklet by now and that training started this morning.  Everyone should attend the trainings; make sure you take your manual!  ASC developed this committee, which was established to view the performance of employees.  Training is mandatory for supervisors and registration is not necessary.

Upcoming Events:

Blood Drive:  Christine Duncan is in need of people to help her organize the blood drive.  She will need representatives at every campus to help organize this event.  The event will take place on two different days at four different locations.  The Austin Blood Bank is low and is in need of donations!  Jill Taylor volunteered to help.

Direct Deposit:  Human Resources and the Payroll department are trying to get employees to sign up for direct deposit.  Direct deposit does benefit employees by preventing you from having to make a trip to the bank, plus depending on what bank you are with your money may appear into your account the Thursday evening before payday.  Direct deposit is not only available to classified employees; it is available to all ACC employees, including hourly employees, so pass the word on!

Juneteenth:  On June 13th, at 10 AM, at the Riverside campus a Juneteenth celebration was held to celebrate the day.  Food, dancing and vendors were all part of the event.

Mentors:  The mentor program has not yet been put together however, Barbara will be getting together with Gerry Tucker, and information will be sent out on the listserv as soon as it is available.

Bulletin Board Notices:  The bulletin board is not being utilized by the Classified Association.  If you have an event at any campus, or would like to publicize anything you may either contact Barbara and she will notify the publications office or you may directly contact Renae Hellman at rhellman@austin.cc.tx.us or at 223 7878.

Judy Green also noted that if you are doing anything that you might be receiving an award for to please send the Bulletin Board that information so that you may be recognized.

Committee reports:  HR taskforce has not met.

Facilities; board did approve energy saving management.

New/Old Business:  Official announcement on raises should be in July or August.  This is the 3rd year for the compensation program and currently it is unclear as to whether it will be offered again or not.  Even if you are at the top of the scale you will still get a cost of living raise.

Mark Goodrich wanted to know if there was anyone interested in volunteering to do a bake sale.  Mark explained that he was willing to be in charge.  Jill Taylor volunteered to help.  The bake schedule was schedule for June 26th from 8 – 10 AM at each campus; all goods would be priced at $1.00.

Mark Goodrich also asked that in the future he would like to discuss issues regarding mediation and he would like to get someone to explain in more detail what it is.

Adjourn:  Meeting adjourned at 12:56 PM.

Respectfully submitted by:

Tracy Miller-Thomason, ACCCEA Secretary
