Subject:   Employment of Hourly Personnel AR# 6.05.006
Based on Board Policy: F-5, Placement/Advancement
Recommended by Council/President: Administrative Services Council
Date Approved/Amended: 12/02/1998; amended 10/20/99, 7/20/05

Value Statement

The use of hourly employees who are not eligible for benefits will be limited in the total number of hours worked to avoid creating expectations for such, and in recognition of institutional financial limitations.

ACC will strive to manage its operations, within available resources, with full-time or part-time staffing table, benefits-eligible employees.

Rule

Hourly employees are subject to all ACC policies, administrative rules, and procedures.  Hourly employees may apply for internal postings.  Hourly employees must have the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work required by the College.  They will be hired in compliance with the Hourly Salary Schedule, which will be comparable to similar staffing table positions.

Hourly employees may be hired for positions or functions which are needed on a varying schedule to support college programs or support services, which are related to short-term projects, or which are temporary in nature.

Generally, an hourly employee may not work more than 19 hours per week, nor more than a total of 900 hours per academic year.  Hourly instructors are not subject to these limitations.  Requests for exception require the approval of the appropriate Vice President and the Associate Vice President of Human Resources.

Hourly employees may be terminated immediately if their services are no longer needed; if they fail to report to work, do not meet the established scheduled assigned by the supervisor, or do not meet the performance requirements expected by the College.  Termination may be immediate, and without notice, when appropriate; otherwise, supervisors are expected to outline intended start and end dates of hourly employees’ services.
