Fall Semester in Arts & Humanities …

• Sep 8^th to Sep 30^th — ACC 2nd Annual Constitution Day Art Exhibit Opens

  Location: HBC Foyer
  Time: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  Exhibition for ACC’s 2nd Annual Constitution Day commences on September 8th and runs through September 30th. Constitution day, founded by the ACC Center for Public Policy and Political Studies in cooperation with the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division as well as the Arts and Humanities Division, challenges students and faculty alike to answer the question: “With reference to George Washington’s letter of September 17, 1787, addressed to the Articles of Confederation Congress, has the Constitution provided the necessary guidance for Americans in the generations since 1787?” Please visit the exhibition to see how individuals interpreted and responded to this question.

  The ACC Philosophy, Religion and Humanities Department hosts three panel discussion events during the fall semester, each exploring a particular religious tradition or theme and its presence in the Austin community.

  Location: Austin Java 1212 Parkway
  Time: 7 p.m.
  The ACC Creative Writing Department sponsors monthly Student Literary Gatherings open to all students and the public. Visit www.austincc.edu/crw for information.

• Sep 15^th — Mexican Independence Day Celebration (An ACC Big Read Event)

  Location: Mexican American Cultural Center
  Time: 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.
  The Mexican American Cultural Center in collaboration with ACC’s The Big Read hosts the Mexican Independence Day Celebration.

• Sep 16^th — ACC Big Read Opening Ceremony

  Location: RVS Campus Auditorium, Bldg G.
  Time: 6 p.m.
  Austin Community College’s Arts and Humanities Division in conjunction with the Foreign Language Department Presents: ACC’s Big Read Opening Ceremony.
  
  Featuring Dan Arellano, author of Tejano Roots and Rosa Davila, ACC Associate Professor of Spanish discuss Sun, Stone, Shadows: Cultural Connections in Texas and Mexico.

• Sep 16^th — Mexican Independence Day Celebration (An ACC Big Read Event)

  Location: RVS Campus
  Time: 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.
  Austin Community College’s El Centro and The Center for Public Policy and Political Studies in collaboration with ACC’s The Big Read present a Mexican Independence Day Celebration on ACC’s Riverside Campus.

• Sep 17^th — Constitution Day Award Ceremony

  Location: HBC Foyer
  Time: 6 p.m.
  The Award Ceremony for ACC’s 2nd Annual Constitution Day takes place on September 17th.

• Sep 23^rd — Revolutions: Personal and Political (An ACC Big Read Event)

  Location: Mexican American Cultural Center Auditorium
  Time: 7 p.m.
  ACC’s The Big Read and the Mexican American Cultural Center present: Revolutions: Personal and Political featuring Austin actors Amparo Garcia Crow and Rupert Reyes reading stories from Sun, Stone, and Shadows with special guest Jorge F. Hernandez, editor of the anthology.

• Oct 1^st — Latinas in America featuring Cristina Garcia and Liliana Valenzuela (An ACC Big Read Event)

  Location: RGC Main Theater
  Time: 7 p.m.
  National Book Award Finalist Cristina Garcia and acclaimed Spanish-language translator Liliana Valenzuela will give a collaborative reading. Sponsored by the Creative Writing Department and Arts and Humanities Division as part of The Big Read.

  The ACC Department of Dance presents its semestrial Dance Video Sampler Series.

• Oct 10^th — Reading the Future (An ACC Big Read Event)

  Location: HBC Board Room
  Time: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  ACC’s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies and ACC’s Education Department in collaboration with ACC’s The Big Read present: Reading the Future: Preparing Texas Educators Today for the Students of Tomorrow, featuring former Austin Mayor Gus Garcia.
  
  Note: This event is open only to Education Students in Central Texas Colleges.

• Oct 12^th — America de Los Indios: “Lo Indio” (An ACC Big Read Event)

  Location: Mexican American Cultural Center
  Time: 6:30 p.m.
  The Mexican American Cultural Center in collaboration with ACC’s The Big Read present America de Los Indios: “Lo Indio” in the Music of the Chicano Movement featuring Conjunto Aztlan.

• Oct 20^th — Borderlines: Drawing Border Lives (An ACC Big Read Event)

  ACC’s Creative Writing and Art Department present: Borderlines: Drawing Border Lives, featuring Steven Schneider, poet, and Reefka Schneider, artist. The Schneiders are the authors of the book Borderlines(Wings Press, 2010).

  In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, the Department of Foreign Languages presenting a screening of the Spanish horror film, “El Orfanato.”

  Reception for Faculty of the Art Department who are exhibiting their work during the 2009 Annual Faculty Art Show running from October 16th through January 15th.

  Austin Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with ACC’s The Big Read present: The Aztec Mummy Returns, a film festival and Halloween event.

  Michael McGriff is the ACC Balcones Prize-Winning author of “Dismantling the Hills.”

  Planes, Trains, and Steamrollers is an ACC Special Projects Art Exhibit being held on Saturday Nov. 14th, Sunday Nov. 15th, Saturday Nov. 21st and Sunday Nov. 22nd only. Come to view student and faculty artwork from Study Abroad: Italy and Costa Rica, Steamroller Madness and the Constitution Day Exhibit. This event is free and open to the public.

  The ACC Department of Dance presents its annual Fall Choreographers’ Showcase. This showcase will premiere December 4th and run through December 5th.
