Dance Film Shoot Celebrates Shifting Spaces

By Natalie Becker

In conjunction with the dance department's anticipated move into the new Highland Mall location, Professor Catherine Solaas invites all current dance students and alumni to join her in shooting a dance film in the new studio space. This event, which Solaas describes as “a true meeting of ACC dance's past, present and future,” will begin at 8:45 am on Wednesday, June 29.

Solaas remarks about this event and the upcoming move: “The funny thing is, as dancers, this is exactly what we do! Dancers move in space. So I felt the opportunity was too great to pass up. I wanted to create a short dance film as a tribute to two things: the dancers (past and present ACC dance students and faculty) and the space (our future, currently raw and unfinished dance studio location).”

This film shoot gives both students and alumni a chance to honor all that they have learned in the current Rio Grande Campus studio while also allowing them a sneak peak into the future of ACC dance.

The film created at this event will be screened at the 2016 Summer Informance (August 11 and 12), which will include “a mixed media performance, incorporating work from several of ACC's creative programs.” The move to the new space is an ongoing process with expected completion projected for summer 2017.
