Dr. Byron Bridges
Byron received his bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies from CSUN and graduated from Gallaudet with a master’s degree in Linguistics.  Since then, he has traveled all over the country giving workshop on various topics such as non-manual signals, strong language in ASL, structure of ASL, complex classifiers, and CDI training.  Byron also co-authored a book and produced a videotape entitled Deaf Tend Your.  Byron is RID nationally certified and completed his doctoral degree in Deaf Studies from Lamar University. Byron currently teaches at Austin Community College in the Interpreter Preparation Program.

Dr. Nathie Marbury
Nathie earned her Bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet University and her two Master’s degrees from California State University at Northridge (CSUN).  Nathie has completed her doctoral coursework at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  She completed her doctorate in Deaf studies during the fall of 2007 at Lamar University. She conducts numerous workshops and seminars all over the United States and Canada.  Some of these workshops are ASL Literacy for Parents of Deaf Children, Black Deaf History, Black Deaf Culture, ASL poetry, ASL Storytelling Techniques, Literature and Culture for Deaf Children, Deaf Culture in the Medical Setting, Visual Gestural Communication, Non-Manual Markers and others.  Nathie has taught at schools for the deaf, universities/colleges, and community colleges over the last 35 years.  She has made a variety videotapes for several companies over the last 25 years.  She is also one of the three co-founders of HMB Productions (Humphrey, Marbury, Bridges), which has produced several ASL/Interpreting videotapes.  Nathie teaches primarily ASL classes here at ACC.

Lisa Gelineau
Lisa began her life in both deaf and hearing worlds thanks to her deaf mother, hearing father and sisters who sign. Little did she know that her native language, ASL, would become her long life dedication.  Lisa Gelineau holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Texas State University and a master’s degree in Deaf Studies/Deaf Education from Lamar University. She has taught ASL courses at several colleges and universities before coming to Austin Community College  in 1999.  At ACC, she teaches all levels of American Sign Language (ASL) courses.  Having grown up and worked with countless interpreters all of her life, she knows the ASL/interpreting field well.  She also has served as a deaf interpreter.  Other than teaching ASL and interpreting, she has presented several workshops and training on various interpreting/deaf/ASL-related topics. Along with teaching, she is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Deaf Studies at Lamar University.

Emily Anderson
Emily’s academic background includes an associate’s degree in Sign Language Interpretation from Austin Community College, a bachelor’s degree focusing on English, Sociology and Communication Disorders and a master’s degree in deaf studies from Lamar University.  She holds Level III interpreter certification from TCDHH-BEI as well as professional interpreter memberships at state and national levels.  As a professional interpreter she primarily works in educational and video interpreting settings. Emily is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Deaf studies.

Ann Horn
Ann was born to a deaf family and currently has a deaf family as well.  Ann attended Gallaudet College in Washington, DC and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.  Ann earned her Master’s Degree in Deaf Education through Lamar University.  She works full-time as the Direct Services Program Specialist at the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing under DARS-DRS.

Bill Eckstein
Bill has taught ACC classes as an adjunct faculty for 13 years.  He teaches ASL II classes year-round at ACC.  He was born and raised in Ohio and attended Ohio School for the Deaf; however, he has lived in the Lone Star State of Texas for over 25 years.  Bill earned his Bachelor's degree from Gallaudet University and his Master's degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in Special Education.  He has also earned many credit hours from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, University of Arkansas graduate school, Texas Tech University, and the University of Texas.  Bill has his BEI Level IV certification in interpreting and is a member of the BEI evaluation team.  He is certified by the Texas State Board of Education for teaching high school ASL courses as well as teaching secondary mathematics and science courses.  He has taught at the Arkansas School for the Deaf, Howard College, Texas State University and ASL classes in various school districts in Arkansas.  Bill currently teaches high school classes at Texas School for the Deaf.  He teaches mathematics ranging from basic math to pre-calculus; and physics and chemistry classes ranging from low function to honor students

Teresa Eckstein

Teresa Eckstein
Teresa has taught ACC classes as an adjunct faculty for 23 years.  She teaches ASL 1 classes year-round at ACC.  In her early years, Teresa attended the Arkansas School for the Deaf and the Opportunity Land in Arkansas.  She earned her Associate of Arts degree from Howard College where she majored in Deaf Studies and General Education.  She has her BEI Level 1 certification and has received many continuing education hours from ASL and teaching related workshops.   She works full-time for the Internal Revenue Service and has done so for 22 years.  Teresa teaches IRS employees ASL and sensitivity training to help those employees understand the Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees' culture. Teresa is also involved in numerous Deaf community activities.

Perry Connolly
Perry received a B.S. in Printing Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1972, having entered with the first group of Deaf students to attend the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) in 1968.  He received two Masters degrees: one in Secondary Education from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales in 1980 and the other in Education from California State University at Northridge in 1987.  Perry taught at the American School for the Deaf in Connecticut from 1972 to 1973 and at the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, N.M. from 1976 to 1986.  He was the director of the Hearing Impaired Program at Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell from 1989 to 1992.  >From 1992 to 1996, he held two different positions at the Texas School for the Deaf: he was a strategic planner for nearly two years, and then he was an American Sign Language Specialist.  Perry has extensive experience in teaching American Sign Language/Deaf Culture from positions at Eastern New Mexico University--Roswell, and in Texas at San Antonio College and Austin Community College.  Currently, Perry is a Senior Lecturer in American Sign Language in the department of Linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has taught for 12 years and teaching as an adjunct faculty here at ACC.

Dan Hoffman
Born deaf to deaf parents, Dan has used American Sign Language all his life. He grew up with a unique educational background, attending schools that used various communication approaches, including oralism, Total Communication, and then finally American Sign Language. After 14 years working for the United States Postal Service, Dan decided to change careers in order to combine his passion and talent in teaching/tutoring, presenting and marketing. He headed to Gallaudet University, where he became active with campus activities, including serving as student body government vice president in 2004-2005. He also worked as a deaf-blind interpreter for Gallaudet Interpreting Services. Graduating magna cum laude with a degree in communication studies, Dan headed to Austin, Texas. He teaches ASL at Austin Community College and is an independent outreach specialist for a video relay service provider. In his free time, he freelances as a deaf interpreter and is pursuing a master’s degree in Deaf studies and Deaf education from Lamar University.
