Hacker
An individual who attempts to gain unauthorized access to a computer
system.
Hard copy
A printed copy of information as opposed to information stored
in computer readable form.
Hardware
A computer and associated physical equipment involved in data processing
or communications functions as opposed to software or computer programs
that provide instructions the computer follows.
Hardware control
Computer controls built into physical equipment by the manufacturer.
Hash total
Control total that has no meaning in itself except for control,
e.g., total social security numbers of employees paid.
HTTP (hyper text transfer protocol)
A communication protocol used to connect to servers on the World Wide
Web. Its primary function is to establish a connection with a web
server and transmit HTML pages to the client browser.
HTTPS (hyper text transfer protocol
secure)
A protocol for accessing a secure web server, whereby all data transferred
is encrypted.
Hub
A common connection point for devices in a network, hubs commonly
are used to connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports.
When a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to the other ports
so that all segments of the LAN can see all packets.
