Instructions for Submitting Exams

Fall 2009

Revised: 06/08/09

The official web page for this course is http://www.austincc.edu/baldwin/Fall09/Itse1356WebPage/ITSE1356.htm.

Timeliness of instructions

This document may be modified as the semester progresses in order to incorporate new instructions or clarify existing instructions.  Therefore, you should review the instructions immediately before submitting each exam to confirm that you are in compliance.  I will modify the revision date given above whenever I make changes to the document so that you will know when it has been modified.

About the exams?

The specifics regarding the exams that you must complete are spelled out in the companion document entitled Course Requirements.  The submittal deadlines for the exams are specified in the Syllabus.

Purpose of this document

The purpose of this document is to spell out the mechanics of taking and submitting the exams.

General

All of the exams require you to submit material in paper format.  None of the exams require you to submit material in electronic format.

The exams must be completed in one hour or less in an open book environment.  You will be allowed to use a computer while taking the exams.

You can take and submit the exams early if you wish to do so, but you must submit the exams by the deadlines specified in the Syllabus.

Location and times for taking exams

YOU MAY NOT COMPLETE THE EXAMS IN AN ACC TESTING CENTER.

Classes for this course are held in a laboratory in a very hands-on environment.

You may complete the exams during any class period for this course.  You may also complete the exams during Prof. Baldwin's office hours.  Before making a special trip to the campus, you should probably make arrangements in advance via email or telephone but that is not a requirement.  In addition, there may be other time periods during which you can take the exam.  If so, Prof. Baldwin will publish those times after the semester begins on the Official Web Page for this course at the URL given above.

You may also complete the exams during a scheduled laboratory period for this or any other course that Prof. Baldwin is teaching, or during other times that he may elect to be in his office (as scheduled by appointment).  You may not complete the exam in an ACC testing center.

Finally, if you see Prof. Baldwin in NRG Room 4238 at any other time, he will probably be able to arrange for you to take the exam at that time.

Be sure to come early enough to complete the exam before the expiration of the specified time period.  Prof. Baldwin will be prepared to score your exam and tell you your score when you finish the exam if you will allow for a few minutes following your completion of the exam and the expiration of the time period.

Prof. Baldwin will post a notice on the Official Web Page for this course (see above) when the exams are ready to be taken.

Failure to Meet the Exam Submittal Deadline

The submittal deadline for each exam is provided in the Syllabus.  If you fail to submit the exam by the deadline, you simply won't get credit for that exam.

Because you will be allowed to complete and submit the exams early, there will be no grace period and no makeup possibility.  Barring a genuine emergency (such as an extended stay in the hospital) failure to submit an exam by the deadline will result in a maximum allowable score on the exam of zero.

Before you ask, let me tell you that business travel, problems at work, extreme work pressures, divorce, depression, receipt of a "Dear John letter", automobile repairs, flat tires, computer problems, power failures, total eclipses, extremely high outside temperatures, high pollen count, broken lawnmowers, the Super Bowl Schedule, and other assorted and interesting circumstances are not valid excuses for failing to meet the submittal deadline.  About the only excuse that I might be willing to accept would be something on the order of extended hospitalization or extended serious illness on the part of you or an immediate member of your family.  If your excuse is not on that order of magnitude, I really don't want to hear it.
