The official web page for this course is

This document may be modified as the semester progresses in order to incorporate new instructions or clarify existing instructions. Therefore, you should review the instructions immediately before submitting each assignment to confirm that you are in compliance. I will modify the revision date given above whenever I make changes to the document so that you will know when it has been modified.
What are the assignments?
The specific assignments that you must complete and the date by which you must complete them are spelled out in the companion document entitled Course Requirements.
Purpose of this document
The purpose of this document is to spell out the mechanics of submitting the assignments.
General
All of the assignments require you to submit material in electronic format. None of the assignments require you to submit paper.
You must submit all of the required electronic files for each assignment as a group. Do not include any files from any other assignment with your submittal.
You can submit the assignment in either of two ways:
Diskette submittal
If you submit a diskette, you must store your completed files in the root directory of a 3.5 inch diskette. Label the diskette legibly as follows:
Last name, first name, ITSE1356, Asg #__ Phone #: __ Email addr: __
Put the diskette in a large envelope (approximately 8.5 x 11 inches) and either slide it under my office door (NRG room 4238) or hand it to me during class, during office hours, or any other time that I am in my office.
Label the outside of the envelope the same as the diskette. Also address the envelope to me so that it may find its way to me if it gets lost.
There should be no reason to include anything in the envelope other than the diskette.
Also make a backup copy of the diskette before you submit it. Occasionally I receive a diskette from a student that is unreadable and I may need to ask you for a replacement diskette.
Email submittal
If you submit via email, encapsulate the required assignment files in a zip file without preserving the directory structure. In other words, I need to be able to extract your files directly into a directory on my computer without having the extraction process create a directory tree that ends with the files.
Attach the zip file to an email message, and send the email message to Baldwin@DickBaldwin.com. Make the subject line of your email message read as follows:
Last name, first name, ITSE1356, Asg #__ Phone #: __
The message containing the zip file must be in my email inbox by the deadline. If you don't receive a confirming message within 48 hours, that probably means that I didn't receive it and you should resubmit.
If I don't confirm receipt, then your assignment has not been submitted. "Lost in the email" is not a valid excuse for failing to submit an assignment on time.
The zip file must be one that I can unzip using the WinZip program http://www.winzip.com/download.htm with no effort required on my part other than to open the file and extract the material contained therein. There must be no requirement for any sort of special decoding. If there is such a requirement, I will not accept the assignment.
If you have any uncertainty about zipping and extracting files, you should probably submit your assignments on diskette.
Quality assurance
Regardless of how you submit the assignment, be sure to test your final product prior to submittal. If you submit a diskette, test the files directly from the diskette before submitting the diskette. If you submit a zip file, extract the files from the zip file and test them before sending the email message.
When you send the zip file via email, put yourself down to receive a copy of the message. When you receive your copy, extract the files and test them one more time to make certain that you sent the correct zip file. If you inadvertently sent the wrong zip file, notify me immediately and send another email message with the correct zip file.
(It is not uncommon for students to attach the wrong zip file when submitting material via email.)
Extraneous Material
Please do not submit extra files such as readme.txt files and expect me to pay attention to them. Please do not put comments in your code and expect me to pay attention to them. All I expect to receive from you when you submit your assignment is the required material. There is no reason that you will need to communicate any information about your assignment to me when you submit it. Any need to discuss the requirements of the assignment must be satisfied prior to your submittal of the assignment.
Please do not submit printed material. Submit only the diskette or the zip file.
Diskette control
If you don't have diskettes and you plan to use them, you won't need to purchase them. Just let me know and I will loan you a couple to use during the semester.
If you are a classroom student, I will return your diskette or a replacement diskette to you after the test is graded.
If you are a Distance Learning student, your diskette will not be returned to you. However, if you remind me, I will provide you with another diskette in exchange for your diskette when you submit your assignment
Failure to Meet the Submittal Deadline
The submittal deadline for each assignment is provided in the companion document entitled Course Requirements. If you fail to submit the assignment by the deadline, you simply won't get credit for that assignment. Before you ask, let me tell you that business travel, problems at work, extreme work pressures, divorce, depression, receipt of a "Dear John letter", automobile repairs, flat tires, computer problems, power failures, total eclipses, extremely high outside temperatures, high pollen count, broken lawnmowers, the Super Bowl Schedule, and other assorted and interesting circumstances are not valid excuses for failing to meet the submittal deadline. About the only excuse that I might be willing to accept would be something on the order of extended hospitalization or extended serious illness on the part of you or an immediate member of your family. If your excuse is not on that order of magnitude, I really don't want to hear it.
