Overview
To successfully complete this course, you must meet the following requirements:
Exams
The textbook is divided into Tutorials instead of chapters. For this course, you will be responsible for the material in Tutorials 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. You will not be responsible for the material in Tutorial 2 or Tutorial 9.
(Note: The reason that I am not making you responsible for Tutorial 2 is because the material in that tutorial is very specific to Microsoft's Internet Explorer product. One of the objectives of XML is to eliminate dependence on products from specific vendors and the material in Tutorial 2 goes contrary to that objective. Be aware, however, that you may be called upon to use some material from Tutorial 2 in the work that you will be doing in later tutorials. You need to be prepared for that if the situation arises.)
Online study guides are available to help you to prepare for the exams. Study guides for the required tutorials can be accessed by clicking on the following links:
Although you won't be responsible for Tutorial 2 and Tutorial 9, I have prepared study guides for those tutorials also just in case you are interested in working through them:
Each exam will consist of 25 written questions very similar to the questions in the study guides that cover the tutorials for that exam.
The first exam will cover Tutorials 1, 3, and 4.
The second exam will cover Tutorials 5 and 6.
The third exam will cover Tutorials 7 and 8.
Detailed instructions for completing the exams are provided in a companion document on this web site entitled Instructions for Submitting Exams.
Data files
In order to complete the assignments, you must start with the data files that you can download here. The files are contained in a zip file named DataFilesForStudents.zip. You will need a password to extract the data files from the zip file. Your instructor will provide the password after you have completed the online orientation. (If you have completed orientation and have not received the password, please notify your instructor.)
A note regarding XMLSpy
See the companion document entitled About XMLSPY.
Assignments
Detailed instructions regarding the mechanics of submitting the assignments are provided in a companion document entitled Instructions for Submitting Assignments.
