WDWK 1413 Cabinet Making I photos - building a base cabinet
Tools used in Cabinet Making I classBuilding a router table
Students select the plywood for the cabinet carcass and cut it to size.
Then they use the router to make dado and rabbet cuts for the shelf and bottom pieces...
""

..they sand it smooth...
""
..and assemble the cabinet
""
Next step: build  the face frame stiles and rails
""
The jig holds the stile & router while the router removes wood - the bottom cutout is the guide for positioning the stile
""

Students route a blind half lap joint to connect the stile and rail of the face frame
""

Note the stile and rail routed blind half lap joint where they are connected (invisible from the front)
""
After the stiles (long pieces) and rails (short pieces) are routed, they are glued together and become the face frame, the visible front of the cabinet

The door panel is made from 3 pieces of wood. They are glued and clamped, planed to the correct thickness and cut to the correct size
""
Students use special router bits ...
""
..to make the finished edge of the door rails
""
The cabinet door is complete!
""
Students build the drawer and add the guides (white strip)
""

They install the drawer and add triangular supports for the counter top
""
Then they measure and cut laminate for counter top while the instructor watches
