The Conventional Wall Systems and Conventional Exterior Finishing classes do some of their work more than 6 feet above the ground. During the above-ground work students and the instructor may be on scaffolding or ladders and while working on the roof, they may be on the trusses or roof decking.
The instructors always require that students use ladders and scaffolding safely. Beginning in the fall semester 2010, an additional fall protection system was installed at the Riverside campus; one has also been installed at the Round Rock campus for these classes. Now while working more than 6 feet above the ground, students wear a harness that is connected to a fall protection system. While wearing this harness, if a student slips, he or she would only fall a very short distance.
