Construction
Gateway is a five-week adult-training program in the construction
trades for unemployed and underemployed residents of Travis County. The
program is conducted at the Riverside Campus.
Gateway tuition is FREE to the
students who qualify.
Construction Gateway is a collaborative effort of Austin Community
College and Skillpoint Alliance; funded by the City of Austin, Travis
County, WorkSource Austin, private foundations, construction companies
and individuals.
The five week curriculum includes construction math, blueprint
reading, site investigation and layout, hands-on training in carpentry,
electrical, woodworking, plumbing, HVAC, and concrete/masonry work.
Students develop a resume and receive employability training. Upon
successful completion of the program a Gateway Graduate receives:
- 9 Hours college credit and an ACC Marketable Skills Award (MSA) in Building Construction Technology
- Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) industry apprenticeship credit
- National Safety Council certification in First Aid, CPR and AED
- OSHA certification in Construction Safety
- Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Certificate of Completion
- Associated General Contractors (AGC) Certificate of Completion
- Job Placement Assistance
