CNBT 1402 Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical Systems - Electrical photos

Photos of the plumbing labs | Photos of the HVAC labs

Students begin the electrical lab by wiring a practice frame for one class. The next class they begin work on the actual one bedroom building which the Conventional Wall Systems and Conventional Exterior Finish Systems classes have built.

Students begin by practicing on a simple wall frame.
""

They are given some basic electrical tools for the class.
""

They wire the frame, strip and cap the wires (including the grounding wire) and attach the outlet.
""...
After wiring a 3-way bulb (which can be turned on or off by 2 separate switches), they test it - success!
""
Now students begin wiring the one bedroom house.
They add the blue boxes which hold the outlets and switches...
""
Sometimes the electrical boxes don't fit correctly in the frame...
""
...so a student removes part of the wood.
""
Now it fits!
""
Meanwhile, other students run wire through the house, as shown on the blueprints. This student is running wires to the breaker box (bottom of photo)
""

Often they must drill holes through the top plates to get the wire through them.
""
Another student adds the blocking and wiring for a ceiling fan and light.
""
The wires are labeled as they are run through the house.
""
The locations and types of wiring are noted on the studs before the wires and boxes are added S3 means a 3 way switch, controlled by 2 wall switches (code requires this in hallways.).
""
Circuits often include multiple outlets that are wired together (in the photo, the vertical and horizontal wires are separate lengths).. Students strip and connect the wires...
""

...and add the outlets and switches.
"".
The electrical work is done!
