All Building
Construction students are encouraged to
join the student chapter of the NAHB.
Why
join?
- Meet and interact with many of the 900 members of the Austin chapter of the National Association of Homebuilders. Make contacts for future jobs. Student chapter members learn about meetings and events and are encouraged to participate - often contractors go to the meetings to find workers.
- Student chapter members can attend NAHB-sponsored classes for a
discount. Check their upcoming events page for the currently scheduled classes and events.
- Being an active member shows
employers that you are serious about a career in the construction
industry.
- The
student chapter participates in community service activities such
as build days with Austin Habitat for Humanity and other
groups
that build structures and parks. The members hold
fundraisers such
as making and selling cutting boards to fund
scholarships for construction classes.
- Members of the
Student Chapter of
the National Homebuilders Association go to the annual NAHB
convention
in Orlando. In February, 2008 we had a team
compete
in the estimating contest.
- The student chapter also has
social events just to have fun!
How do I join?
Complete an application - either get one from the bulletin board at the Riverside campus or ask faculty advisor Pam Powell for an application. Complete it and return it to her with a check for $25 for the annual dues.
