about this image:
This image started as a small, B&W, relief engraving that evolved inot a multi-colored large screenprint. Technically, the base image was hand engraved, on a single 5" x 10" plate, in 4-5 stages; each stage was printed in black on paper. These impressions were then enlarged into screen print stencils. Most of the stencils were then manipulated by hand, adding and delteing marks and printed on top of one another in color.
Initially a technical experiment, this image depicts a collage space of human heads, from close-ups and vinettes of masked children, doll heads, kissing couples, whispering mouths and staring eyes. All of these images float in the space of video static; The entire image is framed and two transparent, oblong concentric cirles/targets ovelay the print. Ideas about the male gaze, childhood influences and identification merge in a virtual, voyeuristic space.
