Agenda Item 6906

December 1, 1997

SUBJECT: Mandatory Adjunct Faculty Survey

RECOMMENDATION

That the Board of Trustees eliminate any "consequence" for failure to complete the "mandatory" adjunct faculty survey.

RATIONALE

The primary purpose for making the survey mandatory was to ensure the highest level of participation possible. Since approximately 95% of the surveys have been returned, the survey results should represent a "virtually complete" picture of adjunct faculty opinion. The Board's intent of gathering information has been met; therefore, the administration recommends that the future hiring of adjunct faculty not be contingent upon completion of the survey.
