Agenda Item 7011

October 19, 1998

SUBJECT: Proposed Amendment to Board Policy D-5, Sabbatical Leave

PROPOSED ACTION

That the Board of Trustees consideration the proposed amendment to Board Policy D-5, Sabbatical Leave. The proposed amendment would provide greater compensation flexibility during the sabbatical period.

RELATED BOARD POLICY OR DIRECTIVE

This item is in response to Policies C-1, General Executive Directives and Limitations, and C-3, Duties and Responsibilities, College President, and was made a policy-development priority by Board vote in November 1997.

RATIONALE

Current Board Policy restricts compensation per semester or 9-month period to a specific percentage in policy. This proposed amendment removes the percentage limitations which is very restrictive and generally not keeping with the general practice among community colleges. There would still remain a limit on total compensation that an employee could earn from all ACC sources to prohibit the employee from exceeding his/her salary.

BUDGETARY CONSIDERATIONS

None.
