SUBJECT:
Calling an election within the Austin Community College District for voter approval to modify the existing cap on the ad valorem maintenance tax.

RECOMMENDATION
That the Board of Trustees discuss the recommendations of the Citizens' Advisory Committee and the possible calling of an election.

RELATED BOARD POLICY OR PLANNING DIRECTIVE:
This item is consistent with Board Policy A-1, Mission of the College; B-2 [6], Duties and Responsibilities, Board of Trustees.

RATIONALE:
The report of the Citizens' Advisory Committee was presented to the Board of Trustees at the June 21, 1999 meeting of the Board. It is proposed that the Board discuss the report and implications of the recommendations at the July 5, 1999 Board meeting. This action would respond to Recommendation 3 of the attached Executive Summary from the Report of Citizens' Advisory Committee forwarded to the Board on June 21, 1999 by the Citizens' Advisory Committee.

BUDGETARY CONSIDERATION:
$250,000 was budgeted for a possible election in the approved FY2000 budget. The results of an election could have a substantial long-term impact on College revenues and expenditures.
