Raul Alvarez was elected in May 2008 to fill the unexpired term of Place 5 on the Board of Trustees of the Austin Community College District.
Alvarez previously served two terms on the Austin City Council, having been first elected in 2000, and re-elected in May 2003. He served as the Austin City Council representative on the Capital Metro Board of Directors and on the Community Action Network’s Resource Council.
Born in Roma, Texas, Alvarez graduated from Rio Grande City High School. He earned an Industrial Engineering degree from Stanford University and a master’s in Urban Planning from the University of Texas at Austin.
Alvarez currently works as the Grassroots Community Coordinator for the Austin Independent School District’s Office of Redesign.
Trustee Alvarez is married to Theresa Alvarez. Raul and Theresa’s daughter, Sofia Mireya Alvarez, was born June 28, 2004.
