Property Custodians

The role of the property custodian is to safeguard and track the equipment in their organizational unit. All budget authorities serve as property custodians but may delegate this role and responsibility to a staff or faculty member.

Each budget authority and property custodian is given access to maintain fixed asset records in Datatel. For audit and security purposes, they may only update the following information:

• Building (denotes the campus and building, i.e. RGC1, EVC8);
• Room; and,
• Location (free-text field used to note other identifying information).

This restriction ensures a department retains ownership and responsibility of an asset until proper notification has been received by the Asset Management department.
