Overview
of the eStaffing
Process
The
eStaffing System allows ACC to
solicit the teaching preferences of individual adjunct faculty members
in a
systematic way and use that information in making teaching assignments.
Adjunct
faculty members record their preferences for campuses, terms, days of
the week,
times of day, and sections. When class assignments are made, individual
preferences can be taken into account. The process works as follows, on
a
term-by-term basis:
- The
Department Chair for each discipline sets up the eligibility list for
all faculty members who will be teaching in their discipline. Deans
must approve these lists before courses can be assigned.
- Each
adjunct faculty member enters their teaching preferences, including
campuses, days of the week, hours of the day, and preferred sections,
for an upcoming term for each discipline in which they teach.
- The
Department Chair gets a list of the courses and sections to be assigned
for the upcoming term.
- The
Department Chair also receives the preferences of every adjunct faculty
member in that discipline who has entered preferences by the
preferences deadline for the term being assigned.
- The
Department Chair works through the list of courses, assigning sections
to instructors in randomized order, taking into account the entered
preferences. There is no guarantee that you will get all of your
preferences, but entering your preferences improves the likelihood that
you will. You do not have to express any preferences if you do not want
to, but this system allows your preferences to be taken into account
when teaching assignments are made.
- The
assignments are presented to each faculty member by discipline (some
faculty teach in more than one discipline). You accept or reject the
assignments for that discipline.
- Once
all adjustments have been made, the teaching assignments are forwarded
to the appropriate Dean for approval, and assignments are finalized.
