Am I a good candidate for enrolling in the Office Administration program?

Administrative assistants perform the essential activities that allow businesses to operate efficiently. Using computer technology, administrative assistants manage appointments, office files and correspondence, equipment and supplies, printing and reproductions, among other duties. Administrative roles vary, depending upon the type of employer. Some administrative assistants specialize in medical or law offices.

Office work can lend itself to alternative or flexible working arrangements, such as part-time work or telecommuting—especially if the job requires extensive computer use. About 19 percent of secretaries work part time and many others work in temporary positions. A few participate in job-sharing arrangements, in which two people divide responsibility for a single job. The majority of secretaries and administrative assistants, however, are full-time employees who work a standard 40-hour week.

How does ACC's Office Administration program compare with other programs?

One of the primary core values the College embraces is ensuring affordability that provides an open door to educational potential. Consequently, the Board of Trustees is committed to ACC’s tuition being the lowest among other local higher education institutions. ACC shall strive to make minimal increases [in tuition} . . . and to remain the lowest-cost local provider of higher education*.

The quality of instruction at ACC is equal to if not better than that delivered at other public and private institutions. In fact many of the faculty members at ACC also teach at other schools and universities in the Central Texas area. They often use the very same textbooks. Other major universities and colleges also have the same accrediting agencies as ACC and therefore follow the same standards and practices that promote academic excellence. What are other students and employers saying about the Office Administration program?

"After acquiring Office Administration skills and training, I was hired to work in a computer lab assisting students with Microsoft Office applications.  I am currently working and training in the IT field.  I have used these skills to advance myself and will soon receive my MCSA certification." Raymond on the Office Administration Program at ACC

"After 30 years in the work force as an administrative assistant, I found myself applying for positions and never even being called in for an interview.  So I decided to go back to school at ACC to receive my Associate of Applied Science Degree in Office Administration with the Administrative Assistant Specialization.  The entire program is designed to help you succeed and be one of the first to be called in for an interview. After completing my degree, I applied for and was selected for a position ....  I know that the degree I received and the excellent training I received from the faculty were instrumental in the position being offered to me." Sandra

"ACC’s Office Administration program has given me the knowledge and skills that are necessary in today’s very competitive administrative career market.  The classes for the MicroSoft programs have been especially beneficial.  The flex-entry option is ideal for people like me who are trying to juggle full-time work, full-time family and still better ourselves, because it allows the work to be self-paced.  I would recommend ACC to anyone who wants to expand their skills and really move from just a “job” to a career." Doris - Administrative Assistant

…I would personally recommend any of the Office Administration programs offered through ACC.  I found the workload manageable, the instructors caring and informative, and the overall program invaluable.  I truly enjoyed the experience and now feel confident due to the skills I acquired. Cindy - Legal Administrative Assistant

What are companies saying about the Office Administration program?

"Our receptionist, Vlada Kuznetsova, graduated from ACC's Office Administration program in August 2006, and was obviously well prepared to join our team shortly thereafter with a variety of office, business, and computer skills. Our receptionist position entails much more than answering phones and greeting visitors - everything from helping our sales staff with quotes and trade shows, to keeping our database up to date, preparing certification letters, and emailing completed projects to clients. Vlada's organizational, communication, and Microsoft Office skills are essential in our fast-paced international environment, and her training at ACC enabled her to be a high-functioning new employee very quickly!"
