After working for approximately 10 years for the City of Austin and local engineering firms, Billy began teaching at ACC in 1981 as the head of the Land Surveying Department. He has continued teaching part time since he retired in 2002. His current choice for teaching stems from his enjoyment of high school drafting classes.
By melding together his education in Civil Engineering, his experience as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor, and his love of drafting, Billy developed the current curriculum for the Civil Drafting class. The curriculum has changed through the years, along with the technology, since the class was first taught in 1988. CAD has fully eclipsed the original 'pencil and paper' drafting practices.
Billy and his wife live on a farm in Williamson County. Their three children live in the Austin area. Besides teaching two days a week, Billy enjoys working in the community, and following summer bluegrass festivals. He works locally to promote these events, and is creator of the monthly Liberty Hill VFW Music Festival.
