Cong Do grew up in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. In 1983 he became one of the boat people who sought freedom and human rights by escaping from Vietnam’s aggressive communist regime. He spent more than a year in a refugee camp in the Philippines before coming to the United States in 1984.

Cong began his college training in the United States by studying ESL at Edmonds Community College. He continued on with his education and in 1991 graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He spent the first 5 years of his career working as a mechanical design engineer in the aerospace industry in New York.  In 1996, Cong moved to Austin and began a new career in the semiconductor industry as an IC physical implementation and design engineer.

With a passion for teaching and sharing knowledge with others, Cong joined the Architectural and Engineering CAD department in 2001 as an adjunct professor teaching IC Layout Design.
