What does On Demand mean? |
top |
We offer several classes that do not have a high enough demand to schedule dates in advance. These classes appear on the schedule as On Demand. When enough people express an interest, we offer the class. If you are interested in an On Demand class, call (512) 223-4900 or email learncad@austincc.edu to place your name on the waiting list. When we get enough people (usually it only takes 2-3 students), we will contact you to arrange a date for the class. |

What are "basic computer skills"? |
top |
Our classes require that you have basic computer skills. You must know how to use the keyboard and mouse and how to work in the Windows environment, including file creation and deletion; directory commands and navigation; data entry and manipulation; and program execution. If you do not have these skills, consider taking ITSC 1006 Fundamentals of PC Use before attempting our computer courses. |

Do you offer job placement? |
top |
We provide students with access to our online job posting center, where many employers post job openings. The classified ads in your local paper are also a good place to find current openings. |
How can I tell if there is space available in a class? |
top |
Click here to see a web page that is directly linked to our database. The enrollment numbers are updated every 2 hours. Find the class and dates you are interested in. The first number on the left side of each row indicates how many seats are still remaining. A "c" before the class information indicates that the class is closed. An "x" indicates that the class is cancelled. |

What is the current job market like? |
top |
Like most high-tech industries, drafting professions tend to experience some volatility in the job market. With the continuing rapid growth in the Austin area, jobs for civil and architectural drafters are currently available. |

How much does a drafter earn? |
top |
Because each applicant brings different experiences and skill levels to a job interview, there is no way to predict how much an individual drafter will be offered. For information about average drafting salaries, visit the Texas Workforce Commission’s website, which lists targeted occupations, their average salaries and the expected growth rate of each field. Keep in mind that there is no salary guarantee following training and that entry-level salaries are lower than average salaries. |

Do I need transcripts or placement testing? |
top |
Because we offer Continuing Education classes, no tests or college transcripts are required. You simply choose the class you want, register and pay—that’s it! |
What do I need to do to park on campus? |
top |
Continuing education students do not need to buy a parking permit. On the first day of class, your instructor will give you a temporary parking permit and allow time for you to go to your vehicle to place the permit on the dashboard. This permit authorizes you to park in any designated student parking area for the duration of your class. |
Are books and supplies included? |
top |
Yes! All you have to do is register and come to class. Any books and supplies needed for class are included in your tuition and are distributed on the first day of class. |
Do you offer on-site training? |
top |
We do. If your company would like to have one of our trainers come to your facilities for training, we would be happy to schedule on-site training. Since we are a premier authorized training center, we do have certain standards that your facility must comply with in order for us to provide the highest quality instruction. If you would like more information about on-site training, call Ashleigh Fuller at (512) 223-4900 or email us at learncad@austincc.edu. |
How many students are in each class? |
top |
Depending on the class, the maximum seating capacity is 8-12 students. Our small class size ensures that you receive more personal attention from the instructor. Many students prefer the smaller, more intimate classroom setting because they aren’t just a nameless student in a crowd. |
Do you offer certification? |
top |
There are several kinds of certificates available at Austin Community College:
Autodesk Completion Certificate
Students who complete one of our Autodesk certified courses receive an Autodesk completion certificate on the last day. This does not make you “Autodesk Certified” but it does show employers that you have been formally trained in the latest release of the software. |
ACC Completion Certificate
Students who complete an ACC Continuing Education course receive an ACC Certificate of Completion. This certificate verifies the course taken as well as the CEU’s earned. |
Certified CAD Drafter Courses
Students who complete the 160-hour, 2-course Certified CAD Drafter program receive an ACC Certificate. All work is done in AutoCAD and consists architectural, mechanical, civil, electrical, and 3D modeling projects. Students assemble a portfolio of drawings suitable for presentation in an interview. |
College Credit Associates Degree or Certificate
Austin Community College offers both a certificate and degree program for students interested in earning college credit. These are semester-length classes that result in an Associate of Applied Science degree or Certificate from the Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design (A&E CAD) department. Because the courses offered by A&E CAD are state regulated, the degree is transferable to many 4-year colleges. For more information on this program, call (512) 223-4841 or email cad@austincc.edu. |

Do these classes transfer to other colleges? |
top |
Because these are Continuing Education courses, you will receive Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) instead of college credit hours. In many professions, CEU’s are required to maintain certifications, but they are usually not transferable to another educational institution. Depending on the college, you may be able to challenge a college credit course by taking an exam to test your proficiency. |
