DFTG 1458 Electrical/Electronic Drafting Course Syllabus

This page is for informational purposes only. An official syllabus is provided the first day of class.
Course Description A study of the principles of layout of electrical and electronic drawings, stressing modern representation used for block diagrams, schematic diagrams, logic diagrams, wiring/assembly drawings, printed circuit board layouts, motor control diagrams, power distribution diagrams, and electrical one-line diagrams. An introduction to schematics, logic diagrams and electro/mechanical design. Study of electronic symbols and the use of industrial standards.
Rationale This course is intended to give students workforce skills in the CAD field.
Instructional Methodology
  • Lectures introduce new material.
  • Exercises allow the instructor to lead students through the material the first time.
  • Projects provide opportunities for students to practice with the new tools on their own.
Prerequisites DFTG 1405. May be taken concurrently with DFTG 2419.
Objectives/Outcomes Introduce students to the principals of drawing electronic schematics and logic diagrams utilizing Computer-Aided-Drafting techniques. Describe and demonstrate the process of lay out and documentation of circuit diagrams. Explain the terminology of electronic drawing and electronic symbology. Demonstrate and explain the theory and practice of reference designators and component sequence numbering. Explain the importance of standards (ASME and ISO) in the modern engineering graphics environment.
Grade Determination Grading policies are determined by individual instructors or course coordinators.
