DFTG 1494 Integrated Circuit Layout and Design III Course Syllabus

This page is for informational purposes only. An official syllabus is provided the first day of class.
Course Description This course is designed to build on the knowledge accumulated in IC I and IC II. The nature of the topics to be covered requires student use of state-of-the-art design and verification tools and the technical support for those tools. For this reason, the class will be held in an industrial setting where the tools and the technical support already exist. The class will be fast paced and it will cover complex topics in depth. Some programming knowledge will be helpful.
Rationale This course is intended to give students workforce skills in the CAD field.
Instructional Methodology
  • Lectures introduce new material.
  • Exercises allow the instructor to lead students through the material the first time.
  • Projects provide opportunities for students to practice with the new tools on their own.
Prerequisites DFTG 2470 Corequisite: DFTG 2471
Objectives/Outcomes This new course has been developed in order to extend the Integrated Circuit Physical Design offerings available at Austin Community College. This has not been developed to be made part of either the degree or certification program. The computing and support environment available at ACC, as contrasted to the environment in industry, limits the topics and tools that are part of those programs. This is not a fault of ACC, but rather a statement about the complexity and knowledge required to build a robust design environment. Although I have felt a need from the industry to provide additional training on more advanced topics, it has not been until a local design firm with similar needs has made a sophisticated design environment available to ACC and enables me to teach more advanced topics.
Grade Determination Grading policies are determined by individual instructors or course coordinators.
