Job Description: United Cerebral Palsy of Texas (UCP Texas) is seeking qualified applicants to serve across the state as an AmeriCorps State ASSET Navigator to help empower people with disabilities to work towards their goals of independent living. Active Service Solutions for Economic Transition (ASSET) is a program developed to assist persons with disabilities achieve economic independence as they make various transitions such as those from nursing homes, from schools or towards employment. The ASSET program has three main focus areas: Financial Literacy, Housing and Assistive Technology. ASSET Navigators will work with beneficiaries in small group settings or as part of one to one mentoring in activities relating to the three main focus areas of the ASSET program. Activities will include, but will not be limited to: establishing short and long-term financial goals, providing trainings on budgeting and other areas of financial literacy, providing assistance securing affordable, accessible integrated housing for rent or for purchase, providing first time homebuyer trainings and helping beneficiaries locate and obtain appropriate assistive technology. Navigators will also research local community resources that may be useful in assisting beneficiaries to work towards their goals of independence. We are currently recruiting applicants for the following Texas communities: Austin, Houston, Fort Worth, Waco/Killeen/Belton area, and Corpus Christi. Other cities across Texas may come available. At the beginning service, ASSET Navigators will participate in an Early-Service Training in Austin and midway through will participate in Mid-Service Training. Participation is mandatory. ASSET Navigators will serve from October 1st, 2009 through August 31st, 2010. Full time ASSET Navigators will receive a living allowance of $11,400 and will be eligible for health insurance, child care and an education award of up to $4725. Part time ASSET Navigators will receive a living allowance of $6035 for the year and will be eligible for an education award of up to $2362.50.
