About Double Click United Cerebral Palsy of Texas (UCP Texas) has implemented a new technology assistance effort to aid Texans with disabilities realize more independence through the acquisition of refurbished computers. A person with a disability living in Texas may contact the UCP Texas offices for an opportunity to purchase a very reasonably priced refurbished computer to help with word processing, personal financial management, online communication, etc. The program is a multi-organizational initiative bringing together expertise from such organizations as the Texas Technology Access Program, AmeriCorps and United Cerebral Palsy of Texas. In addition, the Double Click Project provides a loan program to provide financial assistance for the acquisition of the refurbished computer. The Double Click Project Loan Program is a companion program to serve as a resource for people with disabilities who have no other financial resource to attain a refurbished computer. Basic Position Description 1. Assist with the implementation of the Double Click Project at the different sites across the state and help to identify consumers interested in the Double Click Project. 2. Assist in identifying resources for suppliers of refurbished computers available for purchase by consumers at discounted prices. 3. Assist with the intake, evaluation, approval of applications for the loan product and assist consumers with evaluating appropriate loan repayment terms. Interaction with consumers will primarily be via phone and internet. 4. Coordinate the development of delivery processes and procedures to ensure safe delivery of the refurbished computers to the individual consumers. 5. Assist program participants to identify any assistive technology devices that may assist them in their use of the refurbished computer or other needs. Interaction with consumers will primarily be via phone and internet. 6. Provide follow-up support to AmeriCorps members working on recruiting consumers for the project in various sites across Texas. 7. Work on developing appropriate content for the ASSET website to promote the program and success stories. 8. Coordinate with local Austin Navigators, two service projects that are inclusive of people with disabilities.
