New Medications Released During 2006

Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to enrich the participant’s contribution to quality healthcare and the pursuit of professional career goals by providing updated information on the use, interaction concerns, and precautions needed regarding new medications approved by the FDA and released in 2006.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1.  List three (3) new drugs released in 2006 that were approved via the priority review process (not the standard FDA review).
2.  Describe four (4) new drugs released in 2006 including their mechanism of action, route of administration, and any special considerations.
3.  Identify four (4) new biologic agents released in 2006.
4.  Discuss three (3) drugs that were either new in 2006 or recently released in the last few years that nurses should be aware of and familiar with.
