Kirk White, RN, MSN
Executive Director, Workforce Development Center

Kirk is a Registered Nurse holding a Masters of Science in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from University of Texas, and a Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Design from Texas A&M.  He has worked in community college continuing education for over seven years, holding the positions of Coordinator, Director, and now Executive Director.  Prior to his work at ACC, Kirk has: worked in clinical education and staff development roles for a major healthcare network in Austin; worked as a staff and charge nurse with adolescents and families in a psychiatric in-patient setting, as well as with patients in various stages of HIV disease; and has experience in teaching/training of healthcare topics, and staff/professional development content.  Kirk is currently President of the Texas Administrators of Continuing Education (TACE).


Naomi E. W. Carroll, Ph.D., RN, BC - CNA - Advanced
Coordinator

Dr. Carroll joined the team at the Health Professions Institute in April of 2000 after serving as president of Central Texas Educational Consultants for six years. She has extensive clinical, teaching and administrative experience and is retired from the Army Nurse Corps. She is an active member of the Texas Distance Learning Association.


Elizabeth Huss, RN, BSN
Coordinator

Since the early 1990s, Mrs. Huss has taught as a Continuing Education & Adjunct instructor and has served as a Continuing Education Coordinator. Prior to full time employment at ACC she has worked at local hospitals, Hospice, and long term care facilities as an educator for the Alzheimer's Association. Her areas of clinical expertise include Cardiac Rehabilitation, End of Life, Medical Terminology, and Geriatrics. She has been actively involved in teaching and training throughout her career.


Alex Matthews RMT, MTI, BS
Coordinator

Mr. Matthews has an extensive background in wellness based massage and clinical massage and has been in the field over sixteen years. This also includes fourteen years as an instructor in the massage therapy field and registration as a Licensed Massage Therapist, Massage Therapy Instructor, and Licensed Containing Education Provider, and he is a Licensed Establishment owner in the state of Texas. In 1993 he also worked developing the Equine Massage program in Central Florida. Mr. Matthews's experience includes owning and directing a private practice as well as work for various athletic programs including Texas A&M, Iowa State and University of Florida. Mr. Matthews is an active member of the American Academy of Pain Management and the Texas Association of Massage Therapists. He is an alumnus of the Florida Institute of Natural Health School of Massage, and has earned a BS degree in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.


Doug Mitchell DSS
Coordinator

Dr. Mitchell joined the Health Professions Institute (HPI) in November of 2002. He retired from the US Navy Dental Corps in 1996 where he provided clinical care, served in administrative, leadership and educator roles for over 20 years. After moving to Austin, he was employed by the Texas Cancer Council, a small state agency focused on primary and secondary cancer prevention. At HPI, he coordinates the Dental Assistant Program, the Veterinary Assistant Program, the Clinical Acute Care Skills and the Aesthetic Laser Procedures courses. Part of his free time is spent volunteering for the Austin Humane Society and as a Board Member for Heart of Texas Lab Rescue, an organization devoted to rescuing and finding new homes for Labrador Retrievers.


Pamela Stone RN, BSN
Clinical Placement Coordinator

Ms. Stone joined the staff in October 2004 as Program Coordinator for the Distance Learning Re-Entry Nursing Update Project which is a Perkins grant funded project. The project's goal is to reach more Re-Entry level nurses across Texas via distance learning to help reduce the current nursing shortage. Pam completed her BSN at the University of Texas. She has practiced nursing at Baylor in Dallas, Harris Methodist in Ft. Worth & in private clinical practices in Dallas and Houston. She has been certified as a clinical nurse specialist in the past. She has worked in all areas of Women's Health, Patient Education, Day Surgery and Pain Management. After several years of patient care work experience Pam became interested in nursing education grants as a means to assist in decreasing the nursing shortage across Texas. Upon completion of the grant Pam has continued with ACC CE/HPI as an instructor and placement coordinator. She continues to work on special grants as needed.


Molly Terrell
Administrative Assistant

Prior to joining HPI in November 2007, Molly worked for the University of New Mexico and the Albuquerque Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. She holds a BA in English from UNM.
