DISTANCE LEARNING RE-ENTRY NURSING PROGRAM

EDUCATIONAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

 

EDUCATIONAL GOALS The re-entry nurse will demonstrate the following educational goals upon completion of the distance learning re-entry nursing program:

Provider of Care:

1. Utilizes critical thinking to provide safe, quality and comprehensive nursing care to multiple clients and their families across the life span through the consistent use of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, interventions and evaluation.

2. Communicates therapeutically with multiple clients and their families when providing nursing care.

3. Integrates the teaching-learning process as a major nursing action in the delivery of care to multiple clients and their families to meet their needs for health maintenance, promotion, and/or restoration.

Coordinator of Care:

1. Collaborates with members of the health care team to develop client focused, quality plans of care for clients and their families.

2. Manages material and human resources in an organized manner when providing care for multiple clients and their families.

3. Communicates in an effective, professional manner with members of the health care team to resolve problems affecting clients and their families.

Member of the Profession:

1. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the practice of professional nursing.

2. Practices within the ethical/legal framework established by the nursing profession.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

RNSG 1006 Re-Entry Nursing Update/VNSG 2033 LVN Refresher Theory:  Upon Completion of this course the student will meet minimum educational preparation for re-entry into the practice of nursing which is consistent with the standards and protocols outlined in the nursing literature. Specifically, the student will be able to:

1.  Utilize the nursing process to provide individualized nursing care to persons experiencing a functional deficit which compromises their ability to perform required activities of daily living.

2.  Establish priorities in the delivery of individualized nursing care.

3.  Demonstrate knowledge and safe appropriate administration of pharmacological agents.

4.  Utilize the communication process as a major nursing action with all members of the healthcare team, including appropriate patient documentation.

5.  Integrate teaching/learning into the nursing process to promote individualized nursing care.

6.  Demonstrate utilization of additional learning resources to maintain personal and professional growth.

7.  Demonstrate the application of legal/ethical principles of nursing practice.

RNSG 1060 Clinical-Nursing-Registered Nurse Training/VNSG 1060 Clinical-Licensed Practical / Vocational Nurse Training: Upon completion of this course the student will meet minimum educational preparation for re-entry into the practice of nursing which is consistent with the standards and protocols outlined in the nursing literature.  Specifically, the student will be able to:

1.  Describe and demonstrate current nursing roles in the healthcare setting.

2.  Describe and demonstrate proper nursing process for safe patient care.

3.  Describe and demonstrate safe medication administration.

4.  Describe and demonstrate effective documentation of patient care.

5.  Describe pertinent issues related to quality assurance and legal implications for nursing practice.

6.  Complete a total of 72 hours of clinical/skill practice time without incident.
