Chemistry Department Meeting Minutes

April 29, 2005

2:30 – 4:30 p.m.

CYP – Room 1070

In Attendance: Debbie Sackett, Chris Uzomba, Ya-Ping Huang, Madan Mohan, Bill Cheek, Al Dumbuya, Jessica White, and Marilyn LeBlanc

¨ The meeting was opened by Chris he welcomed everyone for attending.

¨ Publisher reps, Hadra McKnight with Addison Wesley, and Kate Spence with Prentice Hall, both made presentations.

¨ Chris introduced Madan Mohan as the new Department Chair for 2005-2006.

¨ There will be no department meetings during the summer unless an emergency arises. Starting in the fall semester 2005, meetings will tentatively be held on the last Friday of each month and will run from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Debbie will put the calendar on the Chemistry website.

¨ It was decided that a committee would be set up to develop ADA student lab requirements. Chris will send an e-mail asking for volunteers.

¨ Organic textbook selection:

All texts that were being considered were voted on, and the Wade and Carey texts got the most votes. These were voted on once again, and the Carey text from McGraw-Hill was selected. Marilyn will contact Paul Moorman about ordering for the fall 2005.

¨ Open Forum:

- Chemistry for Allied Health – Chris will send an e-mail asking for someone to take over as the Chairperson on the program development committee for this course from Debbie.

- ACC wants Chemistry to develop a distance- learning course. The school requests that all cost to develop this program must be detailed. Drawback is that no time release or money is awarded for course development. Also, Blackboard doesn’t work for Chemistry because it changes everything to text. Perhaps ITV would work. Jessica will put something together that tells why Blackboard doesn’t work and will possibly be able to get a cost.

There is no other departmental meeting scheduled until fall 2005 semester.
