Child Development prepares students to work directly with young children.
Graduates find jobs as teachers, assistant teachers, directors, assistant directors,
curriculum coordinators, home visitors, nannies, family day home providers and owners of child care centers.
If you are interested in becoming an elementary school teacher, ACC’s Department of Education
offers degree plans that allow you to transfer into four year colleges or universities. ACC’s
Child Development AAS degree
transfers to Texas State and University of Texas at San Antonio’s BAAS Programs. Additional courses
through an alternative certification program are required for eligibility for a teaching credential.
The Texas Workforce Commission has identified the child care
industry as the 11th fastest growing economic sector for 2004 -2010.
The
Texas Labor Market Review of June 2005 stated that child care workers are among the ten occupations with
the most job openings from 2002- 2012. |
