Repair of 'blue screen'
Symptoms:
A common occurrence with both
is a 'blue screen' that contains an error message preventing you from using the operating system. There's a multitude of reasons for this message, among a few: incompatible software or hardware, missing .dll files, and a corrupt registry.
NOTE: This particular repair can be for a missing or corrupted .dll file.
Cause:
A missing or corrupted .dll file prevents you from accessing the operating system. .0
Resolution:
To resolve this issue use the 3 Windows NT bootable disks as well as the Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) as follows:
(TO MAKE AN ERD DISK: AT THE RUN TYPE RDISK.EXE)
(TO MAKE THE 3 BOOTABLE DISKS: use the Winnt.exe or Winnt32.exe file located in the /I386 installation directory on the CD-ROM to create a set of Windows NT boot floppy disks
1. Turn off the computer.
2. Insert the Windows Setup Disk.
3. Change the BIOS Boot sequence to boot from A:
4. You should see the Windows NT Setup screen.
5. The screen will prompt you to Insert Setup Disk #2
6. Choose Repair a damaged Windows NT installation press ‘R’
7. Press Enter to allow the repair of the selected boxes.
8. Press Enter to allow detection of mass storage devices.
9. Make sure the IDE CD-ROM has been detected.
10. Press Enter.
11. This next screen simply alerts you to the fact that the hard disk is larger than the current configuration. Press Enter.
12. If you have an Emergency Repair Disk, press Enter
13. Allow Setup to verify the disk for corruption. Press Enter.
14. Insert the Windows NT Workstation CD-ROM. Press Enter.
15. Press Enter to restore the selected files.
16. Insert the Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) Press Enter. Then ESC.
17. You’ll notice an indicator .
18. You may notice corrupted files listed on the screen. Simply choose to Repair.
19. Perhaps another progress indicator.
20. Setup has completed repairs.
21. Remove the floppy disk, and CD-ROM. Press Enter.
NOTE: If this does not resolve the problem, simply look at the error message starting in the topmost left of the 'blue screen' It might start :
STOP: 0X0000001E (0XC0000005, 0XA0036FC2, 0X00000000, 0X00000004)
Go to Microsoft.com / Knowledgebase / Type in 0X0000001E /Look for the resolution.
