  • DAY 1

    9:05a-10:30a:
    An introduction to audio production. Lecture and discussion on how a commercial "pop" song is conceived, constructed and produced - from initial inspiration, rough sketch, demo, and final recording and mixdown. Discuss the various people and responsibilities involved from a vocational point of view. Responsibilities of producer, songwriter, band member, studio musician, and recording engineer will be discussed. Various styles of music and their approaches will be discussed. After that, we'll preview the week's activities, including recording a rock, pop or hip-hop track, making a commercial, and re-mixing songs.

  • DAY 2

    Lecture and discussion on how music and dialogue are recorded and produced for radio, film, television, and commercials.

    Students participate in creating a mock commercial in the studio.

    Demonstration of creating music with computers.
    11:00a-12:00p:
    Students will have direct access to the studio computers and software, to explore the production techniques demonstrated.

  • DAY 4

    9:05a-11:00a:
    Students participate in performing and recording the music for a rock or pop song.
    11:00a-12:00p:
    Students will then have direct access to the lab computers to mix or remix the recorded audio.

    9:05a-9:30a:
    Brief overview of the information covered throughout the week. Q & A.
    9:30a-12:00p:
    Students will have the opportunity to spend more time in the MIDI lab working on their own song, or in the studio, where they can either participate in adding tracks to and/or mixing the rock/pop song recorded on Wednesday.
