Keynote by Luci Baines Johnson
Luci Baines Johnson, the younger daughter of Lady Bird and Lyndon Baines Johnson, is the Founder and Limited Partner of LBJ Family Wealth Advisors, Ltd., a multi-family office managing and helping transition family wealth from one generation to the next. Ms. Johnson is also founder of BusinesSuites, a nationwide office business service center.
A graduate of St. Edwards University with numerous honors, Ms. Johnson is a Trustee Emeritus of Boston University, Seton Medical Center's Foundation and Dell Children's Medical Foundation. She currently serves on the board of The LBJ Foundation, The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, SafePlace and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Ms. Johnson's most precious career is her family. She is married to Ian Turpin and has four grown children, Lyndon, Nicole, Rebekah, and Claudia; one stepson, Stuart; and 13 treasured grandchildren.
Introduction by Christy Carpenter
Christy Carpenter, a sixth generation Texan, is the daughter of First Lady Lady Bird Johnson's former chief of staff and press secretary Liz Carpenter and journalist Leslie Carpenter. Christy has had a varied career as an early pioneer in interactive services, public relations, marketing and non-profit management. Currently, she serves as an independent management consultant providing clients with strategic planning and other services.
Until recently, she was CEO of the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Arkansas and just prior was the executive vice president and COO of the Paley Center for Media in New York and Los Angeles for eight years. Her career also encompasses senior executive positions at the Wine Institute, the State Bar of California, Prodigy, and Warner Communications.
She was twice elected vice chair of the Corporation of Public Broadcasting after being appointed by President Clinton in 1998. In 2010, Christy was named to the Executive Committee of the Center for Global Engagement Chaired by former Presidential Cabinet members Condi Rice and William Perry.
A lawyer by training, she served as a law clerk to former Supreme Court Justice Tom Clark and is a graduate of Brown University and the American University Law School.
