General Rules and Department Policies regarding the Texas Peace Officer Sequence
Courses and
Basic Peace Officer Certification (BPOC):
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATLEY
Proof of citizenship is now required before taking any sequence
course in the Texas Peace Officer Sequence Degree
Proof of U.S. Citizenship can be demonstrated by a:
- a full validity U.S. passport
- Certified U.S. birth certificate; or
- Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240); or
- Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization from USCIS
Proof of citizenship must be in our office prior to you enrolling in the course.
ALL students in the Basic Peace Officer Certification program
must take the four courses in the Texas Peace Officer Sequence as follows:
- Before you can begin ANY of the sequence classes you must have completed 12 hours (four courses) of the seven core classes in the basic peace officer certification degree plan.
- Before you can be cleared (unblocked) to register for CJLE 2522, the department must have on file, a background check, completed through FAST, Fingerprint Application Services of Texas, proof of citizenship, and a copy of your driver’s license. A background check may be accepted from another agency if you have prior approval from the Department Chair. You may download the FAST Pass here.

- CJLE 2424 is a review of objectives covered in CJLE 2420, 2421, and 2522 and is the Capstone course for the certificate program and must be taken during the last semester. This course is required for all students that began the program Fall 2006.
- The comprehensive exam is only administered in CJLE 2424. If you are not currently enrolled in CJLE 2424, or not required to take CJLE 2424, you must contact the department chair to reserve a seat for the exam.
- Per TCLEOSE rule 217.1. Minimum Standards for Initial Licensure, you must have an Associates Degree before we can issue an endorsement. You can still apply for graduation and receive your certificate, but you cannot sit for the State Exam until an Associates Degree has been obtained.
Students must receive approval from the Department Chair to take courses in any other order.
