In 2 the West
The April 2006 production of IN 2 THE WEST, performed at the Mainstage at ACC's Rio Grande Campus, launched our new interdisciplinary program between the Creative Writing and Drama Departments. Student writers from the Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 ENGL 2307 Playwriting classes collaborated with student actors from the Drama Department, assisted by professional guest artists. They created new, insightful monologues about people who live or who have come to live "in the West." Following are some highlights from that premiere.

Writing student Anita Quintanilla portrays an outraged activist in a Texas city where over-
development has destroyed her community's cultural legacy.

Guest Artist Aralyn Hughes portrays an irreverent West Texas high school biology substitute teacher.

Acting student Feliz Dia McDonald portrays a slightly mad young woman pleading her own case at an
insanity trial.

Acting student Javier Arista portrays an intense young survivor of parental abuse, remembering the murder
of his father.

Student Mishon Olger portrays an isolated country woman just freed (via unexpected widowhood) from a
lifetime of emotional cruelty.

ACC acting student Steven Campos portrays a teenager in South Texas who has just won the Texas Lottery.
