The Creative Writing Department and the English Department have been publishing a literary journal since the 1990 spring semester. From 1990 to 1997 Paula Robertson-Rose edited At the River's Side. From Fall 1998 to Spring 2003, Dorothy Ellis Barnett edited The Rio Review. Lyman Grant became the editor of The Rio Review in Fall 2003. At the River's Side featured poetry and fiction by students and faculty associated with the English department for the Riverside, Southwest, and Pinnacle Campuses. At that time, creative writing courses were offered by the English department. At the River's Side also included drawings by the college's art students. The Rio Review is a college-wide literary and arts journal open to all students at the college. It publishes poetry, short fiction, memoir, scenes from plays and screenplays. It also includes photographs, drawings and paintings by ACC's art students. Many issues also feature photographs of dance, ceramics, drama, masks, and a wide variety of creative activities by students at Austin Community College.
