Writers Guild
The ACC Writers Guild is an officially recognized club whose
goal is to create an environment in which young writers
can share their work and receive constructive feedback from
peers in a fun and communal atmosphere. Requirements for
membership are a desire to write and ability to read (or
at least listen). If you're a writer (or if you have two
hours to kill) please join us in the downhill spiral of crippling
doubt, depression, self desrtruction, and (hopefully) the
occasional moments of clarity and insight that make up a
writer's life. Still interested?
Our meetings in the past have been held twice a month at Austin Java, 1206 Parkway (just north of 12th and Lamar) at 7:00 pm. Currently we are
discussing new possible meeting places and times. Meeting dates are subject to change, so please check with the faculty advisor or AWG president for the
next available meeting.
Email AWG advisor, David Thornberry at dthornbe@austincc.edu for information.
Members and visitors are encouraged to bring work and check us out!
If you aren't interested, just be upfront about it. We've been hurt before.
Scholarship Information
The creative writing department sponsors a scholarship for one student for the fall semester and one for the spring semester.
Writer's Resources We offer a collection of prompts for your writing, in addition to links to academic programs, presses and literary organizations, both local and national.
Rio Review
The Rio Review is Austin Community College's literary journal.
You may now be saying to yourself, "We have a literary
journal? What the heck is a literary journal anyway?"
Don't worry, you aren't alone.
Published twice a year, Spring and Fall, the journal features
poems, prose, screenplays and artwork by students at ACC. College wide in scope,
submission is open to all students. Faculty and administrative staff are
welcome to submit if they have taken art or creative writing
classes at ACC.
To become an editor of The Rio Review, you may enroll in the
Academic Coop (ENGL 2389). The Academic Coop is a capstone class
for creative writing majors designed to teach students the fundementals
of editing a literary publication.
