Culinary Arts

All the ingredients for an exciting career

From experimenting with flavors to plating the perfect dish, a career in culinary arts can be fun, inspiring, and — for those with training — quite lucrative. Austin Community College’s Culinary Arts Program gives you the skills and experience you need to be confident in the kitchen and ready for the demands of this fast-paced profession. Advanced culinary techniques will only be part of your career preparation. You’ll also learn what it takes to coordinate and direct a kitchen staff, plan a menu, buy supplies, and organize a presentation. You’ll also have an opportunity to practice your skills with actual diners at ACC’s student-run restaurants.

Career Information

With opportunities in restaurants, hotels, pastry shops, and catering companies, there is consistent demand for professionals with degrees in culinary arts. A culinary artist is responsible not just for the taste of a meal, but the full aesthetic experience. You can also pursue a career on the business side of a restaurant, overseeing the day-to-day of budgeting, customer service, and managing employees. Culinary expertise can also lead to the possibility of opening your own business.
